The concept for Porto Violetta Marina and Resort sprang from the benefits of the area.  It was recognized that this part of the Italian coast in the region of Brancaleone was an area of outstanding natural beauty – one of the most special in Italy and the world - it contains beaches considered to be with Italy’s finest so this was a beautiful and largely undiscovered area.  It was also seen that the location is ideal also for a sailing base - and Brancaleone faces in a convenient fashion the Greek Islands.  Taken together and with all mooring at the two nearest Marinas taken - with a waiting list of some years is normal - so began the concept for Porto Violetta Marina.

So Calabria since 2008 has new access roads and airports expanded - with more to follow in 2011/2013 - so now also it will have a new premium marina and resort.

The marina itself will stretch along just under 1 km of the shoreline and is expected to not just be of benefit to Brancaleone but to a much wider region of towns and villages.

About Brancaleone

Things to do in the area

Brancaleone is more than just a historic centre; there are numerous sport and leisure activities on offer. In the summer you can enjoy a variety of water sports from windsurfing in the cool breeze or diving in the clear waters amongst centuries-old shipwrecks and ancient lost cities. If it’s the clear mountain air you desire, head off to the Gambarie d’Aspromonte National Park. It is less than two hours away and offers great walking and hiking, as well as mountain biking, and in the winter months, skiing.

The climate in Brancaleone is typically Mediterranean with a wonderful 300 sunny days a year. In summer temperatures sometimes reach 40°C.
