Vibo Valentia
Overview
Vibo Valentia is the most important province in the Calabria region, because it attracts the majority of holidaymakers and has a large manufacturing and processing industry. The famous beach regions of Tropea, Riccadi and Pizzo are located in Vibo Valentia. Vibo Marina Habour and the tuna industry in Maierato are key influences in Vibo Valentia's daily life.
Similar to the other provinces and cities in Calabria, Vibo Valentia was part of the Magna Graecia (Greater Greek). It was once the Greek colony of Hipponion and it's no wonder that the region still shows the Greek influence everywhere. Other influences on Vibo Valentia's architecture and heritage are from the Spanish and Roman invasions. Continuously invaded by Syracuse, Bruttii, Rome, Sicily and the Normans, Vibo Valentia was in constant turmoil in the political and economical arenas in the past.
Since tourism is the best industry in Vibo Valentia, the hundreds of beach resorts dotted along the coastline come as no surprise. Several charming B&B hotels throughout the city can also accommodate you quite comfortably. The infrastructure and transportation system in Vibo Valentia are much better in comparison to the rest of Calabria. This means you will be more at home while holidaying in Vibo Valentia and don't have to worry too much about anything.
